These paintings are of a housing estate in Berck-sur-Mer. I used opaque, pastel colour as I wanted to convey mystery and alienation. Opacity is a lack of transparency or translucency. It is impenetrable, you cannot see through it and these shuttered houses in noonday sunlight suggest enigmatic closure, somewhere from which, as spectators, we are shut out.
